Meghna Amonkar

Custom pet art designer, dreamer, entrepreneur

I’ve been passionate about two things all my life – animals and art.

My first ambition was to become a vet. But after visiting the animal hospital, I came back really depressed and felt that I was probably not strong enough to handle it. So then I turned to my other love which was art and enrolled in art college. I am an alumnus of Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai and graduated in 1996. In those days, art college graduates usually joined Ad agencies but I decided to join an eLearning company because I found the technology, animation techniques and the general idea of working in a digital medium really exciting. In October 2018, I left my job as VP Communication Design after a long and satisfying career, having worked across every conceivable product format in eLearning. I decided I needed a new challenge. I hit reset.

Two years ago, on the 26th of November 2016, I brought Taco home from an adoption event organised by World For All. (You can read his story here). Taco is my second pet but nothing at all like my first, or any other dog that I’ve known. I thought I knew dogs but Taco made me realise that I had so much to learn. He’s full of contradictions, dislikes the human race in general, can be Buddha-like calm and composed one minute and ready to sprint for some distant or perceived threat right after. He has challenged me in every possible way as a pet parent but every minute has been worth it. He just has to look at me with those gorgeous brown puppy eyes and I turn into mush.

Taco has also made me understand animals at a much deeper level. Thankfully, he likes his own kind and has a lot of friends. Because of him, I now care for a lot of strays around my house and know all about their quirks, their moods and their relationships with each other. All of this has naturally led me to the path I’ve now chosen. I love animals, I’m good at creative expression and I have years of experience as a digital designer.

This is how Pet-traits was born.

With Pet-traits, I would love to bring alive the personality of your beloved pet. Each illustration will be unique, created after communicating with you to understand your pet's defining traits. Check the gallery section for some samples.

I look forward to knowing you and your pet.
